About Us
Published to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the formation of international rock super trio The Police, Paul Carr revisited Sting’s home town of Newcastle to explore the relationship between his Geordie working-class background and the creativity and inspiration behind his music. Hear what makes this giant of Rock music tick!
Paul is Professor in Popular Music Analysis at the University of South Wales. Prior to moving into academia full time he was an established musician, recording with artists such as James Taylor Quartet, The Jazz Renegades, and legendary American Jazz saxophonist Bob Berg.
His research interests are varied, with subject areas ranging from the impact of electric guitarists on the jazz canon, pedagogical frameworks for work based learning, and widening participation activities. Much of his recent work has focused on Frank Zappa. His edited collection, Frank Zappa and the And was published by Ashgate in 2013.
P.S. Hosting Paul’s talk is another Paul (!) – who’s also a musician and big jazz fan, and will lead the question and answer section of the talk.
