A little further afield, but an easy day trip from Bournemouth by car or bus, is Salisbury. At the city’s heart is Salisbury Cathedral, one of the finest cathedrals in the UK, home to Britain’s tallest spire and largest cathedral close and cloisters. The cathedral is also home to the finest surviving copy of the 1215 Magna Carta, one of only four remaining in the world.
A traditional town that has it all
Salisbury is set among a traditional English landscape, close to Salisbury Plain and the world famous Stonehenge.
An intriguing mix of ancient and modern, it’s no wonder so many overseas visitors make it a ‘must-see’. Its timbered buildings and architecture represent hundreds of years of its history, and in the Chapter House at Salisbury Cathedral, you’ll find the best preserved of the four original Magna Carta manuscripts dating back to 1215 AD.
Eating and drinking out
There’s no shortage of options for eating out in Salisbury, from well-known chain restaurants to individual and specialist eateries, plus tea rooms, coffee shops, and an extensive selection of bars, pubs, and clubs.
