There are schools along the coast so, whether you’re trying it out for the first time or improving your skills, you can hire equipment and find tuition. Then, you can take to the open water on Bournemouth’s glistening seas for the best views back to our majestic coastline. Alternatively, you can opt for the sheltered harbours of nearby Christchurch or Poole or venture into the New Forest for your water activities.
Sailing
With such a vast expanse of the English Channel on your doorstep, a stay in Bournemouth offers the perfect opportunity to take to the water. There are schools and boat hire in our neighbouring towns, including Poole and Christchurch so, once you’ve found your sea legs, you can explore our impressive coastline. There are also several yacht clubs in the surrounding areas so you can find out about moorings for visitors.
Surfing
The beaches in Bournemouth and Boscombe are popular with surfing community all year round and the best swells are near the two piers. Bring your own board or, if you’re trying it for the first time, there are surf schools in the resort where pros can show you the ropes.
Windsurfing
There are windsurfing schools in both Poole and Christchurch harbours – just a short drive from Bournemouth. So, you can stay in town and head out to our neighbouring coastal towns for a slice of the action.
Kitesurfing
Our picturesque coastline is a great place to kitesurf – there are schools in Poole Harbour and enviable stretches of sand at Hengistbury Head. The shallow, waist-deep waters along our coast offer a safe, flat and predictable surface perfect for practising.
