Meet the man who has written everything for everybody – from the Duke of Edinburgh to Chris Morrison! David will talk about how he transitioned to writing horror fiction from writing comedy and writing about music, and the differences and similarities in writing in all these genres. Knowing David’s track record, this talk will be an absolute blast!
David won an Emmy as part of the writing team on Veep, a BAFTA for Harry Hill’s TV Burp and a Writers’ Guild Award for The Thick of It. He was also a writer for The Day Today, Brass Eye and many other shows, and wrote the critically-praised Sky Arts Playhouse, Snodgrass, based on the novella by Ian R McLeod and starring Ian Hart as a 50 year-old John Lennon living on the dole in Birmingham!
As a radio writer, he created Radio 4’s One and 52 First Impressions, writes and appears on Radio 4’s The Now Show and Radio 2’s The Blagger’s Guide.
His novel Sparks was described as “excellent” by Neil Gaiman and his graphic series Louis Wain: The Man who Drew Cats (created with Savage Pencil) was published in Alan Moore’s Dodgem Logic.
As well as a series of music books and the official biography of Eddie Izzard, David wrote the Sunday Times best-seller Grumpy Old Men and has written for over 50 magazines and newspapers, from the Guardian and The Daily Telegraph to NME and Q.
There will be an opportunity to ask him all your questions during after his talk and a personal book signing too.
