11-17th June - Jazz by the Sea Festival receives Arts Council funding to bring world class jazz music to Poole and Bournemouth this summerJazz by the Sea Festival will take place from Sunday 11th to Saturday 17th June at a dozen or more locations across Poole and Bournemouth. There will be live jazz performances in shopping arcades and retail outlets as well as a variety of themed jazz events in local hotels, pubs, clubs, bars and restaurants.
The festival aims to cater for all tastes and ages. For the older generation, there’ll be a Jazz Tea Dance at Beales department store with the BSO dance band and for young musicians a Jazz Stars of Tomorrow event at Bournemouth University.
The festival opens with a Family Jazz Concert at The Lighthouse in Poole on the Sunday 11th featuring BBC Radio 2’s Jazz presenter, Clare Teal and the Guy Barker Hollywood Orchestra playing popular jazz music to inspire and entertain.
Throughout the festival week, there will be a series of jazz themed events, including dinner jazz evenings at local hotels, jazz trios playing in restaurants and pubs and a number of concerts in local bars and clubs. Watch out for the unique travelling Jazzmobile, bringing live jazz music to everyone from Boscombe to Poole Quay. Jazz FM will be broadcasting an evening of music from the festival which closes with a major headline concert at The Lighthouse in Poole on 17th June.
