Day 1: Victorian Gardens & Aviary Songs

Bournemouth Seafront • Bournemouth Lower GardensBournemouth Central GardensBournemouth Upper Gardens

Day 1 – AM: Begin the day with a slow, level walk through Bournemouth's magnificent Grade II-listed town centre gardens. Start in the formal Lower Gardens near the pier, admiring the beautiful floral displays, before continuing through the Central and Upper Gardens. A highlight is the Bournemouth Aviary in the Pine Walk, a tranquil spot to sit and listen to the birdsong. Afterwards, stop for a traditional coffee and cake at a welcoming café, such as the charming Picnic Park Deli in the gardens.

Day 1 – PM: For lunch, consider a pre-booked Sunday Roast at a country-style pub like The Riverside at Tuckton Bridge, which offers a familiar and comforting dining experience. In the afternoon, enjoy the classic seaside scenery without a long walk by taking a scenic ride on the land train. The route along the promenade provides wonderful views of the coast and is an easy, accessible way to travel between Bournemouth and Boscombe piers.

DINNER: The evening is best kept simple and relaxed. This might involve a quiet meal at the hotel restaurant (visit our restaurant page for ideas and inspiration) or preparing a simple dinner if staying in self-catering accommodation.

Day 2 – AM: Explore the dramatic scenery of Hengistbury Head in an accessible way. Take the land train from the main car park out along the spit to Mudeford Sandbank. This allows visitors to experience the unique landscape and stunning views across Christchurch harbour and towards the Isle of Wight without a strenuous walk. The Visitor Centre near the car park is also fully accessible and offers fascinating insights into the area's geology and history.

Day 1 – PM: Enjoy a simple lunch at the popular Beach House, a beachside takeaway known for it's unbeatable location at Mudeford Spit, right on the sand. In the afternoon, engage in a relaxing and creative indoor activity. A session at a ceramics café like All Fired Up provides a gentle and enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours, with a handmade souvenir to take home as a memento of the trip.

Local's Tip: For a peaceful afternoon away from the main crowds, take a local bus to Southbourne. Its clifftop paths are well-maintained, and the beach is often quieter and is a favourite spot for locals seeking a relaxing day by the sea.
