Bournemouth's acres of lush green parks and gardens are beset with impressive golf courses, some of which date back to the 1890s. With the added benefit of fresh sea air rolling along the fairways, you'll soon find your swing here on the south coast.

Dorset has a long history of golfing prowess with an abundance of picturesque and varied courses and, as it began to emerge as a popular seaside destination in Victorian times, Bournemouth established golf clubs in the resort itself. Dorset’s Championship courses also boast links with past masters of the sport including Bobby Locke, Severiano Ballesteros and Ryder Cup Captain John Jacobs.

Many of the the area’s courses are a stone’s throw from the coast and offer the chance to play a round while breathing in the revitalising sea air. Other locations are set along rivers and incorporate Dorset’s famous rolling countryside. You’ll find a variety of terrains from tree-lined fairways to low-growing heathland, suitable for all ages and abilities.

Naturally, where there’s an appetite for 18-hole courses, you’ll find 9-hole options, pitch and putt and extensive driving ranges.

A warm welcome awaits you at Queen’s Park Golf Course, which was established in 1905. As ex-Championship course, it is Bournemouth’s golfing crowning glory set in undulating mature parkland with tree-lined fairways.

Mini Golf

Of course, no traditional seaside resort is complete without mini and crazy golf courses.

We’ve got mini golf in our grade II listed Lower Gardens, a glow in the dark indoor adventure golf venue called Mr Mulligans (located inside the BH2 complex) and the dinosaur themed Mighty Claws Adventure Golf offering fun for all at Playgolf Bournemouth in Iford.

Smugglers Cove Adventure Golf can be found at Pier Approach. Come and embark on a journey and be taken back in time to live the life of a smuggler. With 18 holes of action-packed adventure, experience Bournemouth’s past as you smuggle your ball past treacherous rocks, church ruins and waterfalls. Packed with challenges, the themed course is perfect for some friendly family rivalry!

So, next time you’re planning a golfing getaway, why not head to Bournemouth where you can get up to scratch amid fresh coastal air and breathtaking scenery?
