Bournemouth Aviary has existed at Pines Walk on Westover Road for more than 50 years!

The morning chirp of bird song is louder in Bournemouth’s Lower Gardens as the new Cooper-Thompson Rescue Aviary officially opened on Tuesday 17 May 2022.

This exciting new rescue aviary has replaced the old 1980s building that was previously in the gardens. It will provide a better sanctuary for around 200 tropical birds who have been rehomed.

The landmark structure has been designed to create much more flight space for the birds and provide visitors with a 360-degree viewing space. It has been designed to higher welfare standards than the previous aviary and built to ensure exemplary bird care standards using durable low maintenance materials that have low ongoing maintenance costs.

Most of our birds are rescued, or have been born at our Aviary. We do our best to provide them with a safe and interesting living environment, healthy food, responsible care
