Originally opened in 1900, Boscombe Cliff Gardens merges into the Boscombe Overcliff Local Nature Reserve. The outward looking Cliff Gardens; leading through to the more sheltered Italianate Gardens both overlook beautiful cliffs grazed by a small herd of feral goats.
This area was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in 2007. It is almost 23 acres and is a site of ecological importance. It is easily accessible and popular with both local residents and visitors, who use the area for informal recreational activities. The most popular recreational activity on the site is dog walking.
The Gardens and nature Reserve have been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best in the world. This is the first award for the site and brings the total to 18 across Bournemouth. This international award is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.
