Marking the lead up to World Parkinson's Day on 11th April, Pavilion Dance South West has programmed a full line-up of creative and informative free Zoom workshops to join from home. In the UK, around 145,000 people already live with Parkinson's and every hour, two more people are diagnosed. PDSW's programme explores the application of dance as a physiotherapy and provides accessible talks around the latest techniques and research into Parkinson's.
Parkinson's Dance Class Gathering
Wednesday 7th April, 11am – 12.30pm
On Wednesday morning Dorchester, Sherborne and Bournemouth Parkinson's Dance class members will be attending one big gathering to dance and take class together for the first time.

Dancing the Science and Scienc'ing the Dance
Wednesday 7th April, 2pm – 3.30pm
Join Dr. Sophia and Aimee Hobbs in this fun and informative workshop designed to dance and make sense of the outcomes from the 3-year feasibility research study commissioned by PDSW in collaboration with Dr. Sophia Hulbert, Why Dance?. This is an exciting exploration of the value of dance for people living with Parkinson's in a natural community art setting (using the Parkinson's Dance Science class model). No dance experience needed, all welcome.
This will also be the premier of the artistic response to the 'Why Dance?' research journey and findings by Animator and Illustrator Corianna Clarke from Cora Draws.
Parkinson's Dance Fun Friday Class
Friday 9 April, 11am – 12.30pm
Co-founders of Parkinson's Dance, Neuro-physiotherapist Dr Sophia Hulbert and Dance Artist Aimee Hobbs will lead a fun-filled dance class designed to address the symptoms of Parkinson's. No dance experience necessary. Carers, friends & family welcome.
Managing Parkinson's; Learning out of the Pandemic: In Conversation with Dr. Ralph Gregory
Friday 9 April, 2pm – 3pm
Join Dr. Ralph Gregory, consultant neurologist and lead for Parkinson's in Dorset, as he talks about his practice and shares learning out of the pandemic.
Breath and Movement: Beyond Lockdown
Saturday 10 April, 11am – 12.30pm
Julie Hand will lead a practical breath and movement based restorative workshop with pockets of discussion. A chance to reflect and reset from this past year, Hand will share the golden tips to keep you uplifted and a generous handful of breath and movement exercises to take back into your everyday life.
