About Us
It’s back to the swinging sixties as the award-winning Highcliffe Charity Players get groovy with their latest musical – Made in Dagenham. Based on the much-loved British film, it’s a fun-filled, high octane, feel good show inspired by true-life events – the 1968 women’s strike at Ford Dagenham which would lead to the Equal Pay Act of 1970.
So join Dagenham’s feisty sewing machinists (not to mention Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Secretary of State for Employment Barbara Castle) for an uplifting musical comedy about friendship, love and the importance of fighting for what is right.
Made in Dagenham is written by playwright Richard Bean (One Man, Two Guvnors), with a catchy rock and pop score from Grammy Award-winning British composer David Arnold (best known for his TV and film scores, including Sherlock, Little Britain, Independence Day and Quantum of Solace). It follows the emotional, life-changing journey – from factory floor to the House of Commons – of a group of friends who successfully battle for women’s rights against the might of Ford.
Set to a toe-tapping sixties’ beat, it’s an inspiring, heart-warming story about the Dagenham women who made history. Don’t miss. It’s fab!
