Blue Flag and Quality Coast Awards

We’ve retained the international Blue Flag award status since it was first introduced in 1996 and in 2011 we secured 4 Blue Flag awards for Alum Chine beach, Durley Chine beach, Fisherman’s Walk beach and Southbourne beach.  We also secured 2 Quality Coast Awards for Bournemouth and Boscombe beaches.

Fantastic awards like this recognise the highest standards for water quality, environmental management, safety and services and environmental education. 

Did you know….combined with Poole’s 4 Blue Flags, the bay holds more Blue Flags than any other beach destination in the UK!

Green Tourism award

In 2007 we became the first seafront in the UK to secure the ‘Green Tourism Business Scheme’ award recognising our commitment to sustainable tourism.  The award was renewed in 2009 for a further 2-years, its strict criteria includes -

• Good monitoring procedures for energy usage
• Clear targets set for energy, water and waste reduction
• Good waste management practices including provision of public recycling facilities
