With the sea on one side, forest on the other and two rivers either side there is no shortage of indoor and outdoor activities available all year round. We have golf courses, leisure centres, tennis courts, bowling greens, a ski centre and a variety of popular beach and watersports – all ages and abilities are catered for on the Coast with the Most.
Watersports
You needn’t go far to enjoy some rippling waves at this harbourside town. Hire a self-drive motorboat and explore the safe waters (make sure to wave at the resident swans). Try your hand at sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, paddle-boarding and more with our many coastal operators. With sheltered harbour waters, meandering rivers and instructors on standby, you’ll be sure to find a watersport to suit you.
Leisure Centres & Sport Complexes
Christchurch and the surrounding areas have a great selection of leisure centres, sport complexes, clubs and gyms. Close to the town centre, the Two Riversmeet Leisure Complex offers some great sporting facilities including two swimming pools, fitness suite, 3G football pitches, squash courts, table tennis, a fabulous sports hall, indoor cycling studio and a café.
Chapel Gate, (or Bournemouth Sports Club as it is known) based next to Bournemouth Airport, is a 65-acre sports facility and home to a variety of sports including football, rugby, hockey, cricket, squash, table tennis, archery and rifle shooting. Managed by BU Community Business (BUCB), Chapel Gate regularly hosts local sports’ clubs and schools. It is also the main training and playing venue for the university sports teams.
Rugby
There are several rugby clubs along the Coast with the Most so you can relax on holiday as a spectator or enjoy a fun game with friends in one of our many parks. Chapel Gate is home to Bournemouth Rugby Club (or Bournemouth Lions as they are known) and has three full-size rugby pitches and twi mini pitches. Chapel Gate also hosts the world’s largest sport and music festival the Bournemouth 7’s Festival.
Football
With AFC Bournemouth on our doorstep, and in the Premiership, the Coast with the Most is already full of sporting heroes and our beautiful surroundings make it the ideal place to take a sporting holiday or to try something new. Whatever level you’re at, from beginner to pro – there are schools, social clubs, parks and leisure centres around the Coast with the Most where you can hone your skills or compete against others.
Golf
Christchurch has some great offers when it comes to playing golf; whether you're travelling solo or spending time with friends and family. Some greens come with beautiful coastal views and others in a fabulous countryside setting. You’ll find a variety of terrains from tree-lined fairways to low-growing heathland, suitable for all ages and abilities. As a visitor, you’ll find many ‘pay to play’ courses which happily welcome non-members and cater to groups of various sizes. But it’s always a good idea to contact individual clubs and check play times, local rules and dress codes. By contacting them directly, you can also find out if they have any special offers or seasonal deals.
Bowls
Along the Coast with the Most are some wonderful bowling greens and a few miles from Christchurch town centre the Bournemouth Indoor Bowls Centre at Kings Park is an indoor facility with one of the largest greens in Europe containing nine rinks.
Tennis
Enjoy a game of tennis with your friends and family, there are many clubs, leisure centres and courts along our coastline to choose from.
Cricket
Dorset Indoor Cricket Centre based at Hurn Bridge near the airport offers several facilities including nets for practice and coaching, a self-contained bowling machine, cricket library, viewing area and they also host indoor cricket leagues throughout the winter months. There are lots of clubs in the area including Bournemouth Cricket Club which is believed to be one of the largest cricket clubs in the country. Their playing facilities are based at Chapel Gate (Bournemouth Sports Club) with two grass cricket pitches and one artificial pitch.
