Rick Broadbent is a Bournemouth-based sports journalist and author, who has been short-listed three times for the prestigious William Hill Prize, and is a winner at the British Sports Book Awards. His latest book is an acclaimed biography of the great Olympian, Emil Zatopek, a book about running, torture, sacrifice and banishment to a uranium mine.
He has been a staff writer at The Times for 18 years during which time he has covered the Olympic Games, the Commonwealth Games, the Fifa World Cup, Rugby World Cup, the Champions League Final, Formula One, golf majors, the Ryder Cup, Test cricket, Wimbledon and most other major events.
He has travelled to more than 50 countries, from Rwanda to Argentina, to cover sport and interview dozens of leading sports stars including Usain Bolt, Lewis Hamilton, Mike Tyson, David Beckham, Jessica Ennis. Sir Bobby Charlton, Olympic swimming star Adam Peaty and the late, iconic Sir Roger Bannister.
He also runs Press Packers, his outreach literacy and social change initiative that provides sports journalism workshops for primary and secondary schools.
