About Us
After their last sell out SKIN performance these leaders in the field of Contemporary Dance return with a double bill titled SKIN Reimagined. Celebrating its 21st Anniversary, ACE showcase their signature style of dance; a fusion of African and Caribbean movement blended with contemporary technique, digital media and skills from other disciplines including theatre.
This powerful double bill directed by Gail and Ian Parmel, reignites ACE’s collaboration with international choreographers Vincent Mantsoe of South Africa and Akiko Kitamura from Japan. With Kitamura’s work Blind Trip, the stage resembles a clinical laboratory with futuristic projections, immersive sound effects and dynamic lighting.
Movement is inspired by the ceremony of fighting. Letlalo is Sotho for skin, the mother tongue of Soweto born Mantsoe. An internationally experienced choreographer, Mantsoe draws inspiration from ancestral worship and ritual for this work. Letlalo is about human power and spirit and what unifies us, under the skin.
Running time: 75 minutes (incl. 15 min interval). Age guidance: 8 years+. Contains Flashing lights.
