2CRFM lights out Dorset & Hampshire

"The lights are on but no-one’s home…the challenge is on for local businesses and residents to make a small change with a big difference. "

On Saturday, March 29, 2008 between 8pm and 9pm “Lights Out Dorset and Hampshire” will see darkness fall over the two counties as residents, local businesses and companies are asked to switch off all non-essential lights and appliances. Coinciding with global Earth Hour, an event encouraging cities around the globe to reduce their carbon emissions, Bournemouth aims to achieve a ‘lights out’ similar to London’s campaign last year.

“Lights Out Dorset & Hampshire” follows on from the phenomenal success of Capital 95.8’s award winning “Lights out London” last year. On June 21, the longest day of 2007, 2CR FM’s sister station encouraged millions of Londoners to switch off their lights. Iconic buildings and businesses in the city - The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, The Piccadilly Lights, BT Tower, The London Eye, Canary Wharf, St Paul’s Cathedral and The Gherkin, helped achieve a 10%reduction of carbon emissions being produced.

2CRFM are asking you to turn your lights out – in hotels, businesses, restaurants and bars and switch off all non-essential appliances, for the hour and be part of this worthwhile campaign to create a more environmentally sound and greener Dorset and Hampshire.

“Lights out Dorset and Hampshire” aims to reduce greenhouse emissions and demonstrate how a few small actions from businesses, schools and individuals can literally make the world of difference.
