The award winning Theatre 2000 return following their sell-out success in November with The King & I with another classic show from the Rogers & Hammerstein repertoire. Carousel is one of the truly great Broadway musicals that enjoyed huge success in 1945, when it cemented the Rodgers & Hammerstein partnership that had begun with Oklahoma. Set in New England, Billy and Julie meet at a fairground and decide to marry. When Julie becomes pregnant, Billy tries to raise money for his new family in an ill-fated robbery and is killed. Fifteen years later and desperate to redeem himself, Billy is granted one day on Earth to help his young daughter through a crisis. Carousel's glorious score was Richard Rogers' personal favourite and includes: June is Bustin' Out All Over, If I Loved You, A Real Nice Clambake, the show's unforgettable anthem, You'll Never Walk Alone and the famous orchestral Carousel Waltz. Spectacular choreography and sumptuous costumes complete an unforgettable evening of musical theatre. Carousel was memorably given the full Hollywood treatment in 1956 starring Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae.
