Road Directions
To Poole Shop:
By car
We are opposite the “Quay Visitors’” Car Park (pay-and-display), which is well signposted under this exact name on pale brown tourism road-signs in Poole. It has parking for people with disabilities (some immediately on the left as you drive in on Level B, some on Level C) and “Parent and Child” spaces on Level C.
There is a nicer car park though, 750m (half-a-mile) away, at Baiter/Harbourside, which is opposite Brownsea Island, and from where you can get a glimpse of Corfe Castle.
Public Transport Directions
To Poole Shop:
By Bus (Wheelchair friendly)
The Route One bus picks up from the bus or railway stations and stops on the Quay by the Lord Nelson pub, about 75 yards from us. It does not run on Sundays.
No.9 bus runs from the Bus Station to Old Orchard. See the Wilts & Dorset Bus Company website (www.wdbus.co.uk ) for details.
Here is the timetable
By coach
Long-distance Service coaches stop at Poole Bus Station which is about 1 kilometre (two-thirds of a mile) level walk away.
Coaches on excursions have a drop-off point right outside our door.
By rail
Poole Railway Station (Waterloo-Weymouth line, see www.southwesttrains.co.uk) has good accessibility. This is about 1 kilometre (two-thirds of a mile) level walk away, or one can take the Route One bus.
To Corfe Shop:
Our local bus company is Wilts and Dorset, and they have two great routes that serve Purbeck. www.wdbus.co.uk/bus-times/purbeck/
The Number 40 bus, which runs between Poole and Swanage, has request stops in Corfe at the National Trust Visitor Centre (but then uphill walk to the centre of the village), and in East Street by the Jewellery shop.
The Number 50 bus is the open top bus from Bournemouth to Swanage, and is a fast way to get into Purbeck because it is allowed to jump the queue for the Sandbanks Ferry! Once at Swanage station, you have the choice of getting the number 40 bus or the steam train to Corfe Castle.
Visitors using National Rail on the Weymouth to Waterloo line (see www.southwesttrains.co.uk ) can alight at Wareham Railway Station and catch a Swanage-bound No. 40. The bus shelter is adjacent to the London bound platform.
There is a National Trust car park at Castle View (at the bottom of the castle) and a council car park at the bottom of West Street. Be warned - our Parking Wardens are very good at their job!
Steam train enthusiasts may like to leave their car at Norden Park & Ride and arrive in Corfe by steam train on the Swanage Railway, just like Enid Blyton did! A footpath runs alongside the railway from Norden, and is a lovely walk to Corfe. (see www.swanagerailway.co.uk)
