Holding hands on Bournemouth Beach

Bournemouth Beaches

Bournemouth's seven long miles of golden sands are bigger and better than ever before, offering something for everyone!

At Pier Approach discover life beneath the waves at the Oceanarium or have a bite to eat at one of the many restaurants. Take a walk along the newly refurbished Pier for fantastic views of the bay. Throughout the year, the Pier Approach area hosts a great selection of market stalls, attractions and events.

Visit Bournemouth Beach Office for all your information needs and beach hut bookings. You can also pick up a free LV=KIDZONE wristband from here for your children. The LV=KIDZONE scheme makes a visit to the beach a safer and less stressful experience for parents. With up to a staggering 100,000 visitors on a typical busy August day, there’s a possibility that among all the excitement your child may wander off. The wristbands are colour coded to whichever part of the beach you base yourself on.

Plenty to do at the beach!

If you are travelling on the Land Train towards Poole from Bournemouth Pier, why not hop off at Durley Chine beach. A family favourite, Blue Flag award-winning Durley Chine beach is great for kids. Facilities include pedalo hire and refreshment kiosk. It also boasts a traditional pub on the promenade, so you don’t have to go far for some good pub grub! There are plenty of beach huts to hire and ice creams to eat.

A five minute walk from Durley Chine towards Poole brings you to Alum Chine beach; home to the beautiful Tropical Gardens and has both Green and Blue Flag awards. Alum Chine is a great family friendly area with a pirate-themed children’s playground. Beach huts are available to hire all year round from the local beach office or book online via our Activity Booking Centre.

Take the Land Train from Bournemouth Pier to Boscombe Beach. Boscombe seafront has been transformed from a sleepy 1950’s style beach into the exciting 21st century through Boscombe Spa Village redevelopment scheme. Soon to be home to Europe’s first Artificial Surf Reef, construction work is due to be completed by the end of this year.

Overlooking the reef will be a complex of refurbished luxury beach huts, fine dining in the glass-fronted restaurant, surf hire and lessons, retails and the recently restored Boscombe Pier.

With a regular Land Train service running every 20 minutes (March-October) from Bournemouth, why not leave the car in Bournemouth Town Centre and explore Boscombe by foot.

Visit the fabulous Boscombe Gardens while you are here, featuring a kids water play area, mini golf and café. You are only a short walk from here into Boscombe Town Centre with its eclectic mix of shops and antique store in nearby Pokesdown.

Watersports are readily available at the beach.

Beach huts, deckchairs and sun beds are available to hire – call into the Beach Office to find out more. To the east of Boscombe Pier the Beach Games Zone offers free beach games and activities for children during the summer holidays.

A twenty minute stroll along the promenade from Boscombe brings you to the beach at Fisherman’s Walk. Canoes can be hired here. Snacks and ice creams are on hand and more refreshments can be found at the café on the cliff top which is easily accessible by the Cliff Lift. While there, explore Fisherman’s Walk Ornamental Gardens across the road from the café.

Southbourne is a quieter beach along the Bournemouth Coast. Blue Flag award-winning Southbourne offers great food at the seafood restaurant. There are refreshment kiosks and a local surf school, so get your gear, your classes booked and get ready to catch some waves! A great beach to relax and unwind…
